Request for help - Craze Dave or others with knowledge of Hunter. I just got a new to me 1999, Hunter 260, WB. VERY hard to slide lexon plexiglass back and forth and fiberglass appears to be rubbing on lexon and badly scratching it. What do you suggest ot fix both issues - the difficult to move part and to remove scatches. Seems like someone was using Flitz (sp) and a drill mounted buffer to remove scratchs although I thought it was a metal polish?? Fair winds!!

It is not an uncommon problem, usually stemming from dirt and grit between the slider and the fiberglass. Check out this link for some more info.

Excellent links TJ

The velcro really does work well. I did what Crazy suggested and raised the hatch a little so that it clears the sliding hatch. I also did a repair to the slide and replaced the teak strip on the top with some hard wood. (Jarrah) It has been like that for about a year now and to date no more leaks.

Silicone SpraY

Bill, Just clean both surfaces really well. No ned to buff smooth. Take a rag and spray silocone lubricant on it and wipe down the two edges that the lexan slides on and you will be amazed how smoothly it slides. My 23.5 was the same way earlier this season and now it slides very easily.

Rasing the hatch??

I will go out today and do some more looking budt in advance, when you say raise the hatch a little to look for the rubber spacers, do you have to take apart the white hatch.lexon do get to these? I've tilted the hinged white fiberglass cover with lexon up and cleaned the tracks/rails but didn't see any spacers etc. Thanks folks, I sure appreciate the help - moving this thing is a bear!! Anyone heard of using the Flitz (sp) on the lexon? These scratchs are way to deep for the plexi polishes/scratch removers I've used in the past. Fair winds, Bill

How do you "raise" the top up off the lexon?

I'd like to limit the amount I take apart as the boat is DRY - but I'm guessing you all are right about needing to raise the white fiberglass portion a bit. To do so, do I remove the side guides near the front of the companionway (top) and the hinges forward?

No!

When you slide the hatch all the way forward the hwate hatch of course can be lifted up and on my 260 it is held in the up position by a stainless strut on each side. If you then look at teh aft underside of the hatch you wil notice a rubber stopper on each side. Just unscrew and fit a longer screw and thicker rubber stopper.

Or use felt floor protectors...

I purchased some felt floor protectors at Home Depot -- they are usually applied under the legs of tables and chairs to protect HW floors. I stuck one on the end of each of the rubber stoppers, and, at least temporarily, problem solved. Fair winds, Tom

Wax

Plain old parafin wax works well, doesn't collect dirt and stays on for a while.
