I have a 81' H30, and it has a Yanmar 2QM15 diesel. There is a bronze external fuel filter assembly attached to the left wall. The Bronze cylinder is about 2" in diameter, and 5"tall and has a screw off top, that hold the filter assembly. Was this a standard item on these boats? If so, does anyone know the offical part name and number for this filter? After it leaves the bronze filter it goes to the filter attached to the engine. Thanks!

Can't help with your part but.....

Fred: I can't help you with your part but I would suggest that you change it out with something like a Racor. These old canister type filters (had a Fram on my '85 H'31) are good, but the Racor can filter down to 2 or 10 microns and you can see if there is any water in the fuel. The price for the units are only about $70. You can pick up replacement filters at almost any marine supply store.

Not a filter?

On my H37C with the 2QM20 that "can" was/is a simple water separator. It drove me crazy because I could not get it open where it was mounted. One day I took it off the boat and into the marina shop where there was a big vise. When I finally got it open there was nothing but a two-inch disk riding up and down on a center shaft. Since I have a large Racor I gutted the insides of that "can" and reinstalled. This saved me buying new(longer) fuel hoses, mine were already new. The output of that goes to the Racor. The output of the Racor goes to the small engine-mounted filter with the bleed screw. Yours is likely the same.

I think its a Perko

...10 micron fiber filter like the original on my 1985 31'. I removed it from the boat and had to clamp the body in a vice and use a breaker bar to get the top off. I cleaned out the sludge that accumulated over the years, replaced the filter element and rubber o-ring. I replaced the bottom reain plug with a brass fuel stop-cock to easily drain of any water. I then replaced on boat but added a modern 2 micron Rancor filter/seperator down stream from this perko "pre-filter/water seperator". This gives me three filters in line, the 10 micron perko, the 2 micron Rancor I and lastly the Yanmar paper filter on the engine. I will get the part number for the replacement element when I go to the boat this weekend and post back here. I do agree with Don; put a modern Rancor on with a see thru bowl.

81 h30 fuel filter

i sure remember that darned filter, as mine kept "sucking in air" no matter what i did to prevent that. every 1-2 hrs or so, the motor would sputter and die, and i had to manually pump air out of the system. i replaced it with a raycor (not sure if that is the correct spelling as i haven't had the boat in years). good luck to you !
