I wish to point out an error in the article on electric marine toilets, published in the February 2011 issue of Practical Sailor. The model Raritan Marine "Elegance" #220AHF01202 retails for $630, not $900 as indicated in the article. That makes it superior to the others in function, sound level, AND PRICE. Also note that the models tested were models that flush with pressurized fresh water from your onboard pressure system; they DO NOT flush with raw water from outside the boat.

Raw water models are available, but they require an additional seawater pump, which increases the operational noise level and amperage draw, due to the second pump. They are also somewhat more expensive. The pump is included with the toilet when the raw water model is ordered, but it is not built into the actual toilet; it must be remotely-mounted and plumbed to the toilet pedestal. The same version that was tested, in the raw water-flushing version, would be part # 220AHR01202. Note the "R" in the model number. The "R" indicates raw water, whereas the "F" in the original part number indicates pressurized fresh water.

Also note that the "A" in the model number is for an almond (bone) colored bowl and seat. If you want it in basic white, delete the "A" from the model number. The white bowl and seat are a little less expensive than the almond color.

Amazon price includes "smart flush" panel...

The model referenced in PS does not.

However, that's not Amazon's price, it's multiple sources in the results of a google search for it. Amazon and Sears prices are both above Raritan's list price! (They must be pricing matching WM)

Re: Amazon price includes "smart flush" panel...

Steve, you have to be careful when comparing prices, to be sure you have the exact same model and are not trying to compare apples and oranges. The Marine "Elegance," in all its sizes, shapes, voltages, colors, switch controls, etc. has over 200 different model numbers...

After seeing your comment, I went to the amazon.com website and searched for "Marine Elegance." Their price listings for the various models were actually pretty good, well below factory list prices.
