I am interested in purchasing a feathering prop for my 321. What brand would you recommend?

feather it

I have a Max-Prop on my Bene 400 and love it. The best thing about it, besides the feathering function, is that even in reverse the leading edge is always the leading edge, giving great backing up performance with minimal prop walk and outstanding stopping power.

flex-o-fold 3 blade

I have A Oceanus 351 an 3 years ago changed over to a 3 blade feather prop from Flex-o-Fold and it has been great! Power both forward and reverse are great. I considered the Max prop, but the cost was more than my budget. So far no regrets.

Autoprop

I have an Autoprop on our 361 and am very happy with it. Like the Max Prop in fwd or reverse you always have the leading edge as the blades pivot based on prop rotation. The nice thing is there aren't any pitch adjustments on them. As long as you spec it correctly when ordering it you'll be fine.

flexofold

I had the 2 blade flex-o-fold prop on a previous boat which i loved but there was still quite a bit of vibration from the yanmar but sailing and power was great. What prop did you have prior to the flex-o-fold and how much difference did you find in sailing and vibration? Thanks for your feedback because I am considering changing to a a 3 blade flex-o-fold on my b331!

Flex-o-fold 3 vs martec folding 2

Hi Gerald; My previous boat was a Catalina 30 that I did some beer can racing in Narragansett Bay. It came with a fixed 2 blade and I changed it to a Martec folding 2 blade. It helped alot in light winds as the Catalina is not a race boat. I usually ended up near the top with some other changes. The 2 blade folding was great for sailing, but when cruising in bad weather it would not bite into the waves. it always seems that when the weather turns its always upwind! The difference seemed to be around .5-.75 knots in the light stuff. I purchased the Ben 351 3 years ago and it came with a fixed 3 blade- i.e. a bucket to drag around. I went with the 3 blade because I only race her every now and then. It powers very nicely and I have not seen vibration issues. I went with a inch larger diameter and so the pitch had to be corrected(blades exchanged). the first set at 2,000 rpm I was doing 7 knots. Great until you have to pull into the dock. Make sure you use the beneteau doughnut zincs and the cone zinc. Durring my decision process I considered the 2 blade, but because of vibration and bite into waves- the 3 blade is the way to go. you won't go faster, but less slipage when your into the square waves.

Checkout the Kiwi Prop

Checkout the Kiwi feathering prop - I have a B373 and 40hp yanmar - very happy with the prop, it's made from a composite so no zinc required - very light - so little vibrations and you can adjust pitch if necessary. Also on the less expensive side - $1295 delivered to you via UPS Checkout www.kiwiprop.com

Zincs

Hey dave, Thanks for the feedback. You mentioned the "Beneteau Zincs", I was under the impression that the flex-o-fold 3 blade prop has an integral anode". Also, there is not enough room on the B331 for a doughnut zinc between the end of the strut and the prop. gerald

Zinc

Hi Gerald; The Flex-o-fold has a cone zinc on on the Hub, but I noticed it was not lasting a full season, Beneteau has small doughnut zincs (about 5/8 inch wide) that helps. We go to a dock fairly reguarly and there could be some stray current problems there. hope this helps,
