I have a 2 bladed fixed prop at the moment. It has been suggested to me by several people that a 3 Bladed Feathering prop would be more effective when backing and for sailing. The boat is in the water and I would like to check out the prices on a feathering prop. The problem I have is that I have no idea what my pitch is or even the size of my prop. I could go in for a swim and measure the size, but I thought maybe the 11.0A with a Volvo Penta 17C would have a standard that was put on all of them and you generous people would know what dimensions I would need or MAYBE suggest which one you might be using right now. I have looked a several sites and they are very confusing about what I would need. I am really looking for more control backing and am willing to sacrifice some speed while sailing to get it. Thank You in advance for your help.

I currently have the original 3 blade fixed and have had a 2 blade folding for most of the time spent sailing on my 11M S2 Aft. I found that both do very well backing. The trick was to get some way going, maybe 2 knots, for backing into a slip. Start about 40 yards away and after you have good control, about 2 knots, you can start slowing down as you glide into the slip and then of course putting into forward to slow and stop. It takes a little practice but the S2 will back very nicely.
