Faster Years or Faster Keels

Are some years or keel configurations just faster than others? I already have my opinion on the subject, but since we only cruise and don't race our C-22, I'm not sure. Also, how significant are lifelines relative to speed. I always thought weight was critical, but currently I'm not so sure that it is. Aldo

Faster years

Aldo; I understand that a hard core C22 racer wants an early hull number, as they were lighter. My experience with same boat, different keels, is with C25's. The usual order of finish (not always, as sails and skill will overcome some short comings) is tall/fin, standard/fin any/swing. I do not know about C22's, but you could check with the C22 N.A. for results of the national regatta's. Michael

Grandfathered in?

I don't race, but the guy I bought my boat from mentioned that the texture below the waterline on the earlier Cat's help make them faster, also (besides the less weight), and that the texture is grandfathered into the racing reg's Lisa
