Does anyone have any experience or info about the Farrow bottom paint removal system vs. soda blasting? There is a gentlemen here in New England who does this system and indicates that it is superior to soda systems. I've never had this done to the bottom before. What would be an appropriate cost per foot? Thanks...

I went to there sight and waded through the BS and they still use MEDIA but the bigger issue i see is they use WATER

All marinas have or will real soon have EPA issues about runoff water collection from bottom cleaning , I can tell you right now that at work the water that is not allowed into sewer is drumed and collected buy truck at a pretty big cost

I dont really know the final plan for what they are going to have to do with runoff but it wount be cheep

With soda blasting it is 100% dry they clean up there stuff and leave

I would agree with Tommays, the run off will be more of an issue with that system than with sodablasting, where they basically tent the boat and then use the tent to contain and haul off the material (ie bottom paint) that gets removed from the boat. I had my boat sodablasted a couple years ago, and I would highly recommend going with sodablasting.

Sailing Dog,

Since we're both from New England, can you recommend someone who does soda blasting?
Thanks...

Where are you located? I know two guys who do it, who are both pretty good...one is located down near Buzzards Bay, where my boat is, and he did my boat, another is located in northern Mass, and he did a few other boats I know of. I'll dig through my e-mails and get their contact info, but need to know where you're located. :)

Sodablasting is a great way to go if you want to pay someone. Walnut shell is a dry media that allows complete recovery and can be done very easily and inexpensively by the average DIYer.

Funny, got a call from the local yard where I inquired about blasting the bottom clean. I asked, so about how much is this gonna be. He stated about 2,000, including short haul, barrier coat and CSC paint. So, that ends up being about 66 a foot.

Is this in the ball park?
