Does anyone know where I could find a square fan that you can fit in a deck hatch? I have looked at West Marine etc.... but have not seen one anywhere. It seems to me a reversing fan that fits in a hatch would be good for pushing or pulling in air on those hot southern nights.

Better yet...

Mount a couple of 12v oscillating fans on bulkheads in the cabin, and leave the hatches open with the screens on to keep the bugs out.

Here's one

Found a fan at the Pacific Sail show in Oakland a couple of weeks ago that might be the answer for you - Square, pwerful and quiet. It caught my eye - I didn't buy it (yet) but did pick up literature. The web site below provides full details. Ned Strain s/v Family Therapy '95 h336 Chicago

try campingworld .com...these type of hatch fans

are common on RV's and there are kits that include everything you need to mount it in a hatch. Less than $30.00. Hope this helps.

Neds suggestion.

John: If you want to try something like Neds suggestion, you can go to an electronic store (like Radio Shack) and get these computer fans. They have them as cheap as $5 is some places and they are primarily DC (that's what computers run on). You can make a bracket with some heavy gauge wire and try it out. The amperage of the fan is usually a direct relationship to the amount of air that they move. Higher amps more air. If you can test them out at the store you will be able to see how much noise they make. When I was comming home from Hawaii last summer we had Hella fans in the berths and they were great. Fairly quiet and move a lot of air. If you are going to be at the dock and have AC power you can get a box fan a lay it over the hatch opening, these work great.
