Does anybody out there in Hunter land have any advice on the best spots on the boat to install: speakers in the cocpit, fans in the staterooms and salon, gas barbecue in the cocpit. I just bought a H320 and am going to install all of the above. I want to avoid later saying to myself, what was I thinking when I hung that unit on that wall. Thanks, Dave

Barbecue

So seldom does one usually use a barbecue that I recommend mounting it on the stern rail when you need it. Meanwhile, go out and get a slice of 1-inch or 1.5-inch poly tubing to use as a brace for the bracket. It will stand up more firmly, and you can leave the poly sleeve on the rail as the only vestige of the barbecue.

I Always use grill

Contrary to what Bill mentions. we always use the grill and plan all of our dinners around it so it stays on the stern rail. Finding the correct location will be up to you and your comfort level. Fortunately, it is mobile and can be relocated without many problems. As far as the fans and speakers, carefully plan those out since they become permanent. Ensure that the fans are adjustable. Carefully plan the speakers placement.

I did an artical on installing a stero into my 320, showing where I installed the cockpit speakers (and what I ran into). Hope it helps. Regards. Bruce Neon Moon

We mount the BBQ to the stern rail. Our cockpit speakers are mounted on the forward side of the port and starboard lockers, adjacent to the helmsman's seat. Down at about mid shin-height. Maybe not ideal for listening, but usually there's enough other noise around that FINE listening isn't the primary concern. For fans, I have several of the small clip-on type which work extremely well. They's about 8" diameter and you can move them around or out of the way at will. Just my $.02. Worth less than you paid for it.

Barbecue Grill? Not on my boat.

I used to love to barbecue on a stern rail grill back when I sailed on boats with different kinds of sterns. Now, the diesel tank is just below the port stern rail, and the swim platform is sticking out below the entire stern rail. Oh, the LP tank is there, too, as is the dinghy gas can. So, no charcoal grilling for me. I'm not interested in becoming a mushroom cloud, or in melting the gelcoat. And, there's probably no other place to mount a charcoal grill on any boat but the stern. Otherwise you have burning things upwind of people while at anchor.

Find a speaker pod for the arch

Rather than drilling a bunch of holes into your fiberglass, why not purchase a speaker pod from Hunter? I'm not certain as to the cost, but it shouldn't be much. It simply mounts on the bottom of the (stainless) arch and include a resistor to allow you to reduce volume in the cockpit when you desire. The hardest part is fishing the speaker wires up the inside of the arch. Happy Wiring... Tom
