Was told by a broker that hunter started using plastic veneer in 2007. Is this true? I'm not a fake wood fan. Looks like a 60's trailer to me ( not to offend anyone). Did hunter make real wood optional or are all 2007 plus going to be fake? After all, it wouldn't be spring without giving her a teak oil rub. Looking at 356 and 36 hunters. Thanks all.

My 03 H356 is real wood. No fake teak. Plywood is veneer. It can all be touched up with a Mohawk product that sprays on. See the photo of the product Hunter furnished with my boat.

Ditto! I have to say I always liked oiled teak, but the spray varnish used over real teak on the 356 looks really nice and has held up really well, As jerry said, it's really easy to take care of - we just use lemon oil polish every spring, cleans, shines, and kills any mold spores. I was really disappointed when they went to the fake wood in the 36

Hunter has always tried to keep the cost down. but that is just wrong.
That said, a previous owner of our 30T replaced all of the external teak with gray composite material. They didn't try to resemble real teak. They did a professional job and we love it. Zero maintenance in a harsh environment.

When we had starboard companion way doors built for our 36, I had a Starboard replacement built for the teak handle/trim piece on top of the companion way cover. No external teak at all now . The handle matches the doors and will look new for many years with zero maintenance. And I also replaced the eyebrow trim molding on our h30T with 1" blue stripe from SBO. Liked it better and looked great.

Its all ply with Teak veneer except the double doors to the front cabin which are solid Teak. My boat was very unloved and most of the Teak veneer is blackened with mould. I have had to rub down (very carefully!) the Mohawk laquer to get rid of the mould and make good. Distilled white vinegar is excellent at killing the mould and may recover some problem areas.
