Fairlead block for jib halyard on roller furler

I need to install one of these to keep the halyard from wrapping around the forestay. I'm looking for recommendations from folks who've done it on what block to use.

I've narrowed it down to one of these:

The first and third blocks can be installed with the halyard in place, but I'm not sure if I can get them to fit the curve of the front of the mast. The second one will fit the mast because it has one vertical column of mounting points, but it looks like I will have to mount it and then run the halyard through it.

Any ideas?

What you want is a halyard restrainer. They are designed for this purpose.

Harken and Schaffer make them.

After a second look, i think that the Garhauer block (the first one on your list) is exactly what you want (it seems to be made exactly for that purpose). If you talk to Garhauer, I bet that they would make the mounting flanges at an angle fitting your mast.

Thanks, all. I have a rope halyard so I ordered a halyard retainer with no moving parts from Schaefer. The blocks seems like a better application for a wire halyard. There are pics online of wire halyards cutting through the type that I bought.

One last question and then we can be done with this thread: When I install the HR, should I bed it, or use dielectric grease, or Loctite, or what?

just drill and tap the proper size hole and use dielectric grease and you should be fine
