Got the newsletter back from the printer yesterday. Spent all day
today trying to print mailing labels. I got a new computer last week
and a new printer/scanner to go with it. Of course it came with new
software that's different from what I have been using so I need to
learn it all over again d:^/ so that's holding me up a little. I
expect to get them in the mail tomorrow.
I have succeeded in scanning the Vega Owners Maintenance and Repair
Manual (VORM) and converting it to Acrobat .pdf format. I have also
included in the manual Nick and Jenny's twenty page essay on
preparing for offshore cruising plus a new ten page article on
strengthening the mast step beam that was sent to me by Lars Lemby
bringing the manual to one hundred thirty one pages. Since I already
have the newsletters from August 2000 to date in .pdf, I included
those and all of the photos, both the ones I took and the ones I
received from other members, all on a CD.
With this mailing All new members that have not gotten their manual
yet will be sent the CD and from here on that will be standard
procedure. If you're a new member who has not yet received your copy
of the VORM and prefer the manual on paper let me know and I'll send
you one.
Two volunteers, Adrian Dobrea and Tom Barron, are in the process of
scanning an archive of old VODCA Newsletters going back all the way
to 1980. These were donated by Dru Sheldon and will ultimately be
made available on CD ROM and possibly on the web as time permits.
In the end, I hope to be able to offer the complete archive of the
VODCA Newsletters, VEGA News, Fair Winds and an extensive photo album
to AVA Members on CD ROM.
With all this technology available I will be experimenting with
publishing the regular issues of Fair Winds on CD and, as time
permits, developing a new web site. Feasability will depend on
relative cost for printing and postage and on how many members have
access to a computer. It is most definitely more cost effective to do
the VORM and Newsletter archives on CD. For the regular issues it
depends on the number of pages.
