Failing headliners.

Wanted to keep the white headliners on my 1988 434, but the black “hunk” under them makes it impossible. I scraped off the gunk and painted....but it was extremely hard work and took forever. Does anyone have experience with any type of product that will dissolve the “gunk” and make it an easier job?

Gunk....... picture. Do you mean the clay like blobs they use to hold wires in place? I just tackled a big clean up with mast wires..... got it all over me
