Can anyone pleas explain to me what EZ Steer is all about. Especially related to getting through shallow water and to water ballast boats like the Cat 250, Hunter 240 and 260. Thanks. I have tried to look it up on the web but still do not really know how it works. Tip

E-Z Steer

This is a rod that ties the rudder to the engine. This modifications decreases the turn radius of the boat. Once installed, there is no need to make any changes regardless if the engine is up or down. Goldeneye products also makes this. Expect to pay from $30-50. Search the internet for "EZ-Steer" and Amazon.com for "Goldeneye" See pics on the photo forum. http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=73224538666&fno=17

Couple of links

EZ-Steer is a connection between your rudder (post) and your outboard. It allows you to turn the boat at lower speeds (because you don't have to get water moving over rudder to gain steerage) and allows you to turn more sharply. Why would this help you in shallow water? Typically your rudder in its full down position will be deeper than your engine's prop. So, you can raise your rudder and use only the engine for your directional steerage... which is linked to the rudder post and turns with your wheel as the rudder does. Here is link to photo forum that I posted of some of my mods including EZ-STEER http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=73183758144&fno=17 This is the actual link to the EZ-STEER Website: http://www.ezsteer.com/

I have one on my C250

It couples the rudder to the outboard. It allows for sharper turns since the outboard and rudder pivot together. Depending on your rudder configuration it is usually necessary to disconnect one end if you want to raise the motor out of the water.
