extra fuel tankage

Ken; I have an OC400 with a 40 gal. fuel tank. When I took the boat to Mexico a few years ago, I took along a 25 gal. fuel bladder that I strapped down on the cabin top. It worked, but it had its own problems. I also used several jerry cans, stored in the lazarette, to bring my total fuel cap. to 80 gal.I hate jerry jugs on deck, so what I'd like to do is build two additional 20 gal tanks to install in the two lazarettes and simply gravity feed them into the main tank. It's still just sketches on paper so far, tho.

Ken, I was also thinking about an extra tank on my 331. There seems to be an area under the aft berth on the port side of the engine compartment. I was going to measure and see if I could fit a tank in there. My plan was to add a total separate system with its own primary filter and return line controlled by two valves (one for the feed and one for the return) but sharing the secondary filter and fuel pump. Everything right now is dependent on if a tank will fit, which I plan to check out when I'm on the hard for the winter which sadly will be in a few weeks.

thanks

Barry, thanks for your reply. The area on our 331 on the port side is long and narrow but you may have an idea there. Will check it out. Please let me know how you make out. On another topic, we have a microwave mounted in a cubbyhole just aft of the refer box and inboard of a set of drawers. We never use it except for storage and want to remove it. So far I can't figure out how to get it out. Any ideas? Thanks again, Ken

I also found that the microwave was not something that we really wanted. You need to remove the fiddle across the bottom of the cubby to pull out the microwave. Once gone, you are left with a very large storage space for galley goods and other storage. I took the vent screen from the bulkhead inside the lazarette and mounted it inside the cubby so that it looks finished inside the boat.
