Extra AC line to nowhere!

I moved my water heater out from under the center of the lounge settee to the rear of the starboard lazarette. In doing so I was running the AC line from front to rear as well and planned to piggy back the AC to the Harness running thru the lazarette. When I opened the harness in the lazarette I found an AC line already in there uncapped at the end and attached to nothing. Question? Does anybody know what this extra line may have been intended for? And where it Circuit breaks? I know that these details on hunters evolved to some extent and mine was one of the earliest 28.5s Jim McCue

jim...my water heater was always where you planned to move yours..are you the origonal owner...if not i would guess the previous owner moved the heater inside and just left the a c line there makes your relocation easier....

ditto that

I had an '86 28.5 and the HW heater was way aft in the stb. lazarette. Why anybody would move it is beyond me, other than to make it easier to drain. Or maybe its a replacement?

Ditto that also

Owned an 86 28.5 for 8 years and that's where it was also. Mine was wired on a breaker on the AC side of the electrical panel.

Thanks, but not so ;<

Thanks all, but I was the original owner. I decided to move the heatert for 2 reasons. 1.In the forward sette location, the hose hookups were very hard to negotiate after winterizing and the bottom of the heater was getting kinda rusty. 2. The pre-heater hoses running forward (& return)from the engine was abraiding and leaking coolant at the rib cutouts they ran thru. It was an inexpensive solution to pull the heater and relocate it aft and continue to use the good sections of the hoses. So I still don't know why there was a power line in that lazarette harness. Maybe somebody at hunter had some extra busy time to experiment locating the heater. ??? Jim McCue

How big is the water heater?

Jim, Like the others, my h/w heater is aft on stbd side, below the cockpit. It's a box-shaped, six gallon model. I don't think it could fit under either of the settees. Is yours the same size? And where exactly was it before? Eric Lorgus s/v Explorer 87H285

My water heater is there

I have a 1985 hunter 28.5. The water heater is located starboard aft section in the equipment locker as far back as it can go. I'm quite sure it came from the factory this way. Hope this helps. John

Sorry for the delay-

I believe I have the same type heater as you- it was originally situated "on the keel line" sitting on the convex "floor" below the aft section of the V-berth. A very tight fit. Just under that little stowage area behind the seatback cushions. They (Hunter) had cut a square in the fiberglas shelf in that stowage area (nicely framed it out too) and dropped it in. I suspect they found this location a lot of work and expensive in running the long hoses from the engine forward and back. Jim McCue
