As anyone that has a Beneteau 411 will tell you, there simply isn't room in the bow of the boat to install a traditional bow thruster with a tunnel. I've looked at several alternatives, with the one that I'm leaning towards the most being an external bow thruster from Externa. This unit sits completely immersed under the front of the boat attached by a 2" pipe that both goes through the hull and which passes the electrical connections through. Apart from that it's a typical bow thruster application. The price seems reasonable and the installation is less than one day as it doesn't require any glass work. So my question is the following: Has anyone tried this product? How much drag do you feel it creates? Was the installation as foolproof as they claim (DIY)? And are you getting the thrust expected? My thanks to those that answer.
