Exterior topside window snaps leaking on a Hunter 36

Hunter 36's have raised snaps on the forward top side fixed windows in front of the mast. They give you mesh exterior curtains to snap on the topsides to reduce sun damage down below. It seems to be a bad decision to put those snaps around the perimeter of the two windows and the resultant holes that must be drilled to install them. It's just a whole bunch of new places for water to leak in. And that's what exactly happened. For whatever reason, one of them became loose (it's real easy to bump those snaps as you go forward) and sure enough the water came in and stained the vertical teak wall where that interior louvered shutter is that goes into the V-berth. Anyone else have that problem and has anyone figured out a way just to remove all those snaps (it's kind of a useless option when you live up north on the Great Lakes) and effectively cap them and seal them forever? Thanks

Surprised you had that problem and I have a 2007 H-36 for 2 years up NY and had the white mesh on most times but that was just 2 months of summer and yes off the rest of the season.
But now in Florida since 2008 I had new covers made solid Blue to block the sun and help keep the heat from the sun out and keep adding more solid blue covers on all the hatch's and just added solid blue covers for my companionway too and use same type of snaps too.
I also have the same snaps to hold dodger on the deck points and they are the only ones who have come loose from the canvas guy who made the bimini and dodger,I also have the same snaps for holding the cockpit cushions from moving.
The front dodger snaps are the only snaps that needed new epoxy sealer when they came loose.
