Has anyone had any experience with cruising for long periods on a catalina 22. I would like to cruise Florida and the keys for a couple of months. I will always be within a couple hours of land, so supplies would not be a problem. I do not intend to go long distances off shore. I would also like to skip over to the Bahamas, but do not know if a catalina 22 can make the hop through the stream. Any opinions are appreciated.

Should be fun!

If you're just coastal hopping, you should be ok as long as you watch the weather. It might be cramped but if you're solo (or really close to your sailing partner!), you'll have fun. Be all up to date on ALL USCG requirements though. And you might make a map of all the dumping stations where you're going so you know quickly where to go when your portapotty fills. I don't think Floridians are too cool with folks dumping their "stuff" in the crystal waters! :) As far as Bahamas go, get a decent sized motor, make sure your rigging is solid, watch the weather and make the passage with other boats. Have fun! LaDonna

What a Life !!!!!!

Hi There, LoDonna took the words right out of my mouth. It must be nice to be able to take a couple of months to cruise like that in those waters. I only wish Florida were closer to California. We too have a great spots to sail but nothing like the Keys and Bahama Islands. Enjoy !!! :) Dave LaPere Cat 22 Mark II "Natures Cradle"
