down from Lake Michigan

Here is a link to a family who have written quite a bit on the web about coming through the inland waterways including the Tenn-Tom. I met these folks down on Mobile Bay. http://www.calumetdreams.com/index.html

A Different Approach

1) I recommend a cruise book (or other information) providing information about boat yards and chandleries along the route. 2) Then I recommend you buy all your favorite foods and stow them neatly on your vessel. 3) Then stock with operating requirements: fuel, cooking fuel, water, toilet paper, tools, clothes, the 8 federal requirements, VHF. 4) Go on your trip. Anything that you'd like to upgrade, add, replace, or repair can be done along the way. Enjoy yourself!

Check those Seacocks

I have an immaculate-condition '82 H27 and pay very close attention to seacocks. Also, on Lake Erie, we don't worry much about zincs, BUT, in salt water, they are very important, as, I'm sure you know. Good Luck!

marinas and showers

We did a little "extended" cruising in our 1980 27 and we found most marinas were not up to our expectations as far as clean showers and the ability to get provisions. Many marinas are like a boat reapair shop and not like a camp ground. Therefore, you need to be prepared to take care of your self and plan ahead. If you can make contact with sailors who live near the area you intend to cruise through (like folks on this list), perhaps they can give you the heads up on good places to shop and stay. Regarding the shower, the head in your 27 is a little tight to try to make a shower. Being a large man, I would opt for a cockpit shower. The drain is allready there and you stated you already have some sort of enclosure. All you need is a source of hot water. Good luck! Don

The Corps is a Great source of info.

You can get a lot of info from the Corps of Engineers web site. Louisville District has navigation charts, river stages, forcasts, and then the Nashville District gets you into the Ten-Tom. By the way I just purchased a 1980 27 any upgrades you could recommend would be great.
