Express on the hard

I've owned my1969 28 CIB {EXPRESS} for just over three years and have been looking for other Irwin owners on the East coast for sugestions, tips and resources. I grew up sailing a 35 ft gaff rigged Daniel Stevens built "Blue Nose schooner" out of Hempstead Harbor NY. Started sailing when I was 5, and have been a member of The Long Island Maritime Museum for over 25 year, that's where my Irwin found me. If there are any fellow Express owners looking around this site I'd appreciate your logging on and saying hello.

Hi - I have a 1974 I28' centerboard model which I've owned for 1 1/2 years. Needs lots of work, which I'm getting to slowly. In the mean time, it sails great and is lots of fun. I'm not sure how similar your boat is - I think they are all pretty alike but I'm willing to trade thoughts and ideas. I'm based out of Shark River, NJ, 1st inlet south of Sandy Hook, NJ. By the way, what does "express" denote?

just bought a 1971 I28' centerboard. on the dry and lots of work to do. out of parlin NJ at the moment. would love to get some advise regarding some of the work that needs doin:
bottom paint
deck teak treatment

also - would love to swap the porta-potti for a marine head. any advice? holding tank and then plumbing, correct?

The "Express" is between 27 and not quite 28 ft. aparently were only built for a few years. Some with inboards, Atomic 4 or Yanmar 2cyl diesel, others with well mounted outboards. The few I've heard of and tracked down were in the gulf. Back in the 70's I had a friend who had one in Manhasset Bay, on Long Island sound. We raced her for two seasons. Re: Head,Check with the locals for legal discharge requirements.
