Experts on Seagull IV water filter

I have a H31 1986. I have removed the Seagull IV water filter from beneath the galley sink. I would like to replace the cartridge. However.....on loosening the securing knob fully and even removing it (see pics) the securing band does not fall away from the cylinder, and I cannot seem to part the two halves of the cylinder. What am I missing here guys? Thanks!

I can take the handle off the band and remove the band exposing the rubber ring. I can pull it apart then and get to the filter.

Thanks All U Get. A rubber mallet and a flat bladed screwdriver seemed to do the trick and got the top to separate from the bottom. I tend to avoid the mallet treatment until I have exhausted all other tricks and tips. In this case it was that simple. Thanks!
