Exiting the marina

A note of caution. As I was leaving my slip yesterday and motoring out to the main channel, a 55-60ft motor yacht was backing up out of a side channel at speed. Without lookouts on the rear of the boat, the pilot had no idea who was around. There were two SUPs right behind him. Fortunately, I was able to see him in time and throw it into reverse and at full throttle get out of the way. The stand up paddle boarders were able to move. I'm just glad I was going slow enough to be able to react. Sometimes the most dangerous part of sailing is getting out of the marina.

Yeah, there is no end to the fun. Blowing into Ventura Harbor yesterday, broad reaching in 18 kt & making about 7.4 kt until furling the headsail, there was some crazy party boat BACKING across the channel, a barely visible kayaker messing around at R2 (sea buoy), kids on two SeaDoos barreling out side-by-side like bikers on a one-lane highway, plus a smaller sailboat coming under our lee with his mainsail up and outboard in the water (is he motoring?--I don't know)---all at the same time!! My poor wife (who was helming)!
