I was told to replace my exhausthose from the mufler to the thru hull fitting. As i removed the orginal, old cracked hose, i noticed that 90 bend to the thru hull fitting compressed the steel lined 2" hose and restricted the flow of water, there was also another large U bend. I than tried to install a new hose bought at the marina, along with new SS hose clamps. This is when I decided that this orginal installation must be wrong, Has anyone run into this problem.

Hose bends

Difficult to say without having seen your setup, but no, the exhaust path in my H27 has no sharp bends whatsoever.

The strighter the better

The exhust path should be stright, without any bends or kinks. The previous hose was probly too long.

anti syphon

beg to disagree..many exhaust lines will have a bend that extends above the water line to prevent water syphoning back into the engine after long cranking without the engine starting..actually it is the correct way to install the line

Anti-syphon

Generally, a point well taken, but I was referring to a straight path fore and aft. There is always some vertical hose curvature necessary depending on the type of muffler one has. I used a vented loop on the hose between the engine block and the mixing elbow for anti-syphon purposes, not bends in my exhaust hose.
