I just replaced the stock exhaust elbow on my 2GM20 with a stainless exhaust elbow from exhaustelbow.com. I ordered the part from Ben and got it 2 days later. He included gasket material to complete the job. It took only a few minutes to complete and it works very well.

Now I feel I need to install a flapper at the thru hull to keep water from getting into the motor. Has anyone with a h27 around 1983 model ever installed one or have pictures of the exhaust thru hull? I need to know what size flapper I need.

I know of a h27 on my lake that had water intrusion from wakes slamming into his stern. It happened twice to him and I would like to avoid the same issue.

but the best way is to run the hose from the muffler outlet high up above any heeled waterline then back down to the outlet.. that way, ya don't need a different outlet.

Absolutely need a water lift muffler system with an exhaust loop as high in the boat as you can get it. Although we have used these boats for over 30 years, Hunter did not design a good exhaust system. A good system keeps water from entering the engine. After losing the engine my boat's exhaust system has a water lift muffler and exhaust hose loop high in the lazarette before exiting at the waterline.

Without a doubt, the high loop is the only safeguard against water intrusion to the engine from water hitting the exhaust outlet.

And I've REALLY got something to worry about because my exhaust outlet is below the water line and faces straight down. When things get rockin' and rollin' I often wonder how far water can get driven up there when the stern lifts and then drops. The loop is about a meter high plus the exhaust hose drops away from the engine so I SHOULD be safe.
