Exhaust System

I have a YSE12, but this is in general to all engines. I've heard that you are not supposed to use galvanized pipe in the exhaust system, but I don't know why. I used a 1.5" galvanized 90 deg elbow with 2 short nipples to make a sharp turn where the hose would not make such a sharp turn into the water muffler. I just had to replace my mixing elbow after a 7 year run and I bead blasted the galvanized parts and reinstalled them. They looked great. What's wrong with galvanized pipe?

good question

I'm no diesel engine magician but I subscribe to the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" principle. I've heard the same things about gal. elbows and if yours is working fine than keep it, just keep a close eye on it.

just rebuilt mine after 1,000 hours on myUniversal

M-18 (1986) The entire exhaust elbow was nade out of 1.25" galvanized pipe and four elbows connecting to an exhaust hose. There was no sign of wear, just some leaking around the threads at one of the joints. Original owner verified he had never replaced anything on the exhaust system, so it must be the original system. Cost to rebuild: $20.00. Good Luck
