I am in the process of waxing my boat and don't want to wax over
the exhaust stains on my transom. Has anyone got a GOOD product
that they can recommend to remove these stains?

The best I have found are actually two products made by Aurora in Canada. They are "Boat Scrub" and "Speed Clean".

The Boat Scrub is the primary cleaner and it contains some sort of bleaching agent. This does a very nice job on exhaust stains. For some cleaning jobs the company recommends mixing some Speed Clean with the Boat Scrub, but I can't remember if that is required for exhaust stains.

Aurora makes a variety of cleaners for all purposes, and I have only tried the Speed Clean and Boat Scrub. They are VERY hard to find, and never at a discount from list price. If you find them they will be about $17-19 per pint. And when you do find a discount, the shipping eats you up.

I wish I had a better recommendation - I would love to find a comparable product that is easily available and not so pricey. Perhaps others on this board will have a solution.

I have no affiliation or interest with Aurora. Check the link below and see if there is a dealer near you.

Baby Shampoo

I've had good results from baby shampoo and a brush. Wet the area, rub on straight shampoo wait a couple of minutes and scrub with a soft scrub brush and rinse with a lot of water (salt water works OK). The big thing is to keep up with it, but it only takes 4 or 5 minutes from the dingy.

I've used baking soda to get rust stains out of my counters.. sprinkle it on and scrub with a wet sponge.

Collinite cleaner works for me- not the wax/cleaner, just the straight cleaner

Everybody has a different solution! My preference for stains is Davis's FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover)--a blue gel easy to apply (oxalic acid in a mild gel). Does a great job on all the brackish water stains we get at the top of the Chesapeake too.

...so I'm at the boatyard, climbing up the ladder to the stern of my Hunter, and I see the black exhaust stains. Then I remember recently reading this thread. Then I looked under the sink cabinet, and see the 2-pack of Mr Clean Magic Eraser that the Admiral bought last season. Hmmmm... So I tossed one in my bucket, added a little water, and darn if those black stains didn't come right off.

...didn't do the same for the rust stains though.
