Since I had to remove it to take the bell housing off to deal with my striped out R&D damper plate (but that is another story), should I replace it? It seems ok, but I don't know if it is suppose to compress when you install it, a one time use item, kind of like the metal head gaskets on small gas lawn mower engines.

I wouldn't take a chance

I certainly wouldn't take a chance on something like a manifold gasket. Besides being relatively inexpensive, the fumes can kill you should it leak. At best the exhaust smell would not be a good thing to have in the boat.

I rebedded ours in 2007 because I was getting blow by because the goon I hired in 2003 didn't use muffler patch paste on the threads like I asked him to. If you don't have to, don't bother. The gasket is paper and requires care when installing because the holes are very close to the edge of the gasket. This assumes you meant the exhaust flange gasket at the aft end of the manifold. We have an M25. Some hi temp RTV gasket sealer wouldn't hurt either.
