Exhaust Flap Replacement

New Catalina 30 owner/2706. I ordered the replacement stainless steel assembly Catalina direct) with flap before I understood exactly how to.. install the replacement.

Is it necessary ( I assume so) to remove the plastic sleeve...if so, how is this done?

Anyone have a suggestion based on their experience...thanks in advance/RH

Did just that with our '82 Catalina. Backed her into the slip, sat on the dock. Hose was stiff, but got it off with heat gun. Used a Dremel to cut out old plastic, new ss flap fit right in, caulked, hose put back on. Not a big deal, nice improvement. Need to clean and wax the ss now and then.
