exhaust fan for generator install

I've installed a generator in my port lazarette and it runs like a top but I'd like to get a fan to keep it cool on the hot days here in SC.

I'd like to install some cooling ventilaton (exhaust fan) to keep the compartment below 110 degrees. I have a 4 inch axial fan but it doesn't seem to move much air. I don't have alot of space and can't seem to find enough space to install a higher capacityy centrifigal blower. Does anyone have a suggestion for a 4 inch 120V axial fan that has higher capacity than those commonly advertized. I can use a 120F fan since it won't need to be running unless the generator is running. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

or you could run flexible duct to that area and then locate the fan somewhere else as to act as a suction exhaust

I use a standard 3" in-line bilge blower. My genset needs electrical end air cooling and this works for me. Have you actually measured the compartment temp? We have hot days into the 90's when I run the generator for air conditioning too. See the white blower that I connected to the flow-thru air port on the transom. I sealed off the connection to the aft cabin.

Our old Catalina had a 3" 12V fan like Rich's that we ran to vent before we started the Atomic 4 gas engine. On hot days we ran it just to pull heat out of the cabin if we were motoring. We do the same with our current boat which has a 4" fan. Does your generator have 12V output? Maybe you can run some exhaust hose to a cowl vent in the stern. Our fan was half way between engine and stern with the open hose end in the bilge under the gas motor. (Like Woody said)

I also have the 3" bilge blower and run it in to keep the heat out of the cabin when motoring. Sucks from right under the motor and creates a negative pressure in the engine compartment, works great. The hose runs 15 feet aft and sure enough you can tell the exhaust air is heated when you put your hand near the transom vent. I put the blower about midway in the duct, not near the motor or the exhaust, just in a convenient spot to hang it.

Too bad computers have come as far as they have... Used to be you could get 5 1/4" 12VDC fans for computers for like $5. They were EXCELLENT boat fans... (I even used one to replace the fan on my Nova Kool fridge unit).

I set generator fan up to draw air out of the sound enclosure and exhaust it from the boat, cool air is drawn into the enclosure bottom vents from an adjacent opening into the aft bilge. Keeps the smell of hot Diesel engine out of the house.
