exhaust backpressure

In a repowering situation, where the original gasoline Albin engine
is replaced by a diesel, can the original exhaust loop in the
lazarette be reused, or would that create too much back pressure for
the new engine, and a new, larger diameter tube loop replace it from
the water-lift muffler to the transom scupper? Is there even a way
to connect the new tube from muffler to the original exhaust loop?

Hi - I'm sure others have comments, but my Vega has been repowered with a
Yanmar 2GMF (in 1984!) and the original copper loop is still in place. No
problems with back pressure (water lift muffler creates way more than the
loop ever would, anyway). I'd check all the transition fittings and replace
them with new exhaust hose, exhaust elbows, and clamps - all sizes are
available. Bill Bach, V1071

Hi

With the age of the Albin exhaust system it would be very prudent to change
the entire dry exhaust system to a new wet exhaust system. The albin is at
least 30 years old and the stainless steel is just about knackered in most
of the cases have seen. I use the Vetus Water Trap and Vetus Swan Neck
then connect using a good quality exhaust hose of the correct diameter.
