I have a new, 2003, sail boat with a 12 VDC, Adler Barbour refrigeration system. I seems to run almost constently, the freezer section keeps ice froozen but it produces a lot of frost while the refrigerator section is is often around 50 degrees. The counter top is constantly wet from condensation. I've contacted the broker/sales office but gotten no satisfactory results during the past four months. Where should I go for real help?

Search the archives

There is alot of info in the archives. Sounds like the seal on the lid isn't. Also check the hole that brings in the refriderant. Russll

Weather Stripping.

John: There should be some type of a seal between the lid and the counter top. On my H'31 it was just a lid sitting on some wood strips. If yours does not have any seal, I would go to a Home Improvement store and look at the weather stripping that they use for doors/windows. They usually have a 'P' shaped and a 'D' shaped strip. I only used a single strip around the lid and it has helped the frosting a lot. The stuff is very inexpensive (I think less than $5)

Yup, sounds like the lid isn't sealed properly

I agree with the other posts that the likely source of the problem is a poor seal at the lid. You want to minimize air exchange. Home Depot would be a place to start, but I think you're dealer should take care of this under warranty if you can demonstrate the problem and it's still covered. Best of luck, Trevor

Similar Problem

We had a similar problem with our new Hunter 356 last year. I do not know what kind of boat you have, however, I also was not getting any satisfaction from the dealer until I notified Hunter Customer Service. As it turns out the fridge was not properly insulated. Hunter supplied the dealer a retro kit and they eventually did the repair under warranty. It appears all is working properly now.

Latch?

My H380 was doing the same thing... Teh female portion of the latch on the fridge side was jammed. Although it appeared the lid was flush, it was not and moist air was able to enter thus creating all the frost. $2 and 10 minutes later it was fixed. Cheers Brian s/v CREW REST
