A little history: Here in Stuart there is a museum, The Elliott. There is a display there for Evinrude motors. There are a dozen or so old Evinrudes on display which are fun to look at. And some history of Evinrude. I was curious why this display existed there. It turns out that the singer and actress Frances Langford (You'd have to had lived in the radio era to remember much about her) married Ralph Evinrude after he made his fortune. They were a fixture around here owning a popular restaurant and marina, The Frances Langford Outrigger and Resort. It is still in existence today as the Dolphin Bar and Shrimp House. The happy couple could be seen riding around in there yacht and attracted celebraties to the area - putting this area on the map in the 50's.

Our clubs entire fleet of coach/chase boats (over 20 of them) was out fitted with E-TEC engines over the last 10 or so years. By far they have been the absolute most reliable engines the club has ever owned, and this is tracked by spread sheet expenses... They were light, quiet, powerful and could idle all day long if needed, something that happens in chase/coach boats.

My snowmobile is also an E-TEC and I can say the same for it. Amazing reliability. I can only hope Mercury winds up with that technology....

Ducked one here. Was going to replace the OB on my Boston Whaler, but comperable four strokes were too heavy. I looked at the two stroke Evinrude and it was a whole lot lighter. I put it off until my fall haul out. Now, I guess I'll just nurse along my old Tohatsu. Sorry to see this storied brand disappear yet again.
