We are planning a two week trip to the 10,000 Islands of the Everglades. Our boat draws 4' and I have a bucket of charts of the SW fla. area along with cruising guides. I'm now looking for any first hand information from other sailers who've been down there. Our main jumping point will be Everglades city, from there we'll head off to ????? I know the Little Shart River is a great place to spend some time, any other good anchorages for a boat my size? Has anybody been to Flamingo in a sailboat with a 4' keel recently, can I make in the entrance channel there? What about Coon Key channel (going up to Goodland Key), charts show some narrow/shallow spots. Being a native of south florida I'm all too aware of the mosquito's down there so my netting is up and secure (along with back-up netting).

Indian Key

We sailed from Marathon up to Indian Keyin our P42 which draws 5 feet. We anchored at the east end of the island and had a nice quiet, solitary visit. We dinghyed up the channel to take a look at Everglade City and found that with care we could get in a bit further but didn't. We're planning on returning when we get some more time off. Enjoy
