Ever Notice How Neat Boat Names Are Printed?

Anyone have a couple ideas of how I should go about painting "Bella" on Bella? Is there a good way to make a templace? Some type of template material? Any time-saving, headache alleviating ideas are welcome!

Thanks,
Jack.

Ps. To my amazement, all of the electrical I replaced, the fuel lines, and the fuel tank...and all seems to be working as advertised. The Solar Array is putting out power, the engine started and ran for 20 seconds (thanks a bunch to everyone for ideas on how to run out of the water), there is voltage everywhere...even the 2KW true sine inverter charges and inverts! Still need to check the alternator...

Hi Jack,

1. Play around with fonts in your favourite word processing/drawing program
until you get what you want in the way of layout and typeface.

2. Change the font to outline

3. print the result on standard paper ... if you are putting the name on
dodgers then you may only have a couple of letters per A4/letter page, so
add a line below which will allow you to align the letters later.

4. Cut along the outline with a craft knife to make a stencil (but leave
connectors for the middle of letters like 'O')

5. Align your stencils and paint through them.

Easy, cheap ... and repeatable if you make a mistake.Alisdair

I don't know if you want to use vinyl or not, but a sign shop or a trophy shop can make up vinyl letters in almost any font you wish and give them to you on a backing that will hold the spacing until you get them on. Paint is pretty, though.

I did the same as Alsidair, but used the stencil to pencil-in the letters' outlines, pinched an artists brush from my wife's art desk, and painted it in by hand.

I used regular enamel paint, thinned a tiny bit to make it flow.

I forgot to mention, I use 'spray mount adhesive' to hold everything in
place and make it easier to achieve a neat edge. This is also great if you
decide to use spray paint, as otherwise the little fiddly bits can lift and
give you a feathered edge. You can reuse the stencil for painting the name
on your dinghy.

Thanks to one and all for the advice. I printed the name on my printer and will cut it out tomorrow. Should have it applied (via the spray on adhesive) and painted by the weekend!

Thanks again!
