Has anyone used or have information on the effectiveness of Island Girl fiberglass care products. Do they preform as advertised? Do they create future problems with the carre of your fiberglass and non skid surfaces?

I did my non-skid using their non-skid package. It turned out OK and still repels rain 9 months later. I think Island Girl's cleansing products are very good if not as easy as you might believe from the ads. I also tried to do the smooth deck surfaces with the IG Pink and wipe-on wax. It worked great in the cockpit and transom but would not set up on the deck. It remained tacky. I did it twice, but same problem. I found out by talking to them that I should have used a catalyst to kick it off. I never tried it since I just finished the deck and hull with a one-step marine wax. I also found the IG Pink cleaner to be real handy to keep around. So, my results were mixed, but they may have been satisfactory if I'd used the catalyst.

This is a very common subject on this forum.

Search the archives for the phrase "Island Girl" you'll get 500 hits going back to 2002. That ought to keep you busy for a while.

My recollection is the bottom line is that if you follow the instructions EXACTLY you'll be happy with the result. Make sure you want to do this because getting it off is difficult if not impossible. Works best for old neglected gelcoat in need of restoration. Wax is better for boats in better shape.

George: I do not know what you are talking about. I might assume that you are talking about the non-skid sealant. If you want to remove it, you just wash it down with a liberal amount of IG Pink.

It is one of the best products on the market to restore your gelcoat. My experience is that if you keep your boat conditioned with the IG products it will stay in good shape for many years. What I have not seen with the product is that the product do not seem to bring the gel coat to a high gloss.

The non-skid is dependent on following the instructions. I really don't know if there are better products on the market for the non-skid because I have not used them.

George may have been thinking of one of the acrylic sealers/refinishers in use these days. I for one plan to at least try the nonskid products.
