Ethanol and Older Engines

For those of you with an older gas powered Vega or owner of an older
outboard, this is for you.

A friend of mine in USPS, recently had a several thousand dollar rebuild of
he boat's gas engine. The mechanic said it was becoming common and caused
by using the new Ethanol blended fuel in older gas engines. The mechanic
said it would pretty much apply to any older gas engine, possibly even
including lawn mowers.

In the Puget Sound area there are marinas that sell straight, old-fashioned
gas without the Ethanol. I assume this fuel can be found in other areas if
you look. (Although the modern fuel is non-leaded and that may require you
add an additive when using engines older than the 1970s, give or take a
decade (as I don't really remember the onset of non-leaded gas).

There are a number of articles on the internet about this. This came to the
top when I did my search.
