We have an '88 h33.5 with a 20gm20f deisel. We are getting ready to check compression on our next trip to the boat. In the event we need some major overhaul/repair work, I was hoping to get some ballpark figures for Yanmar dealer service on the following: Valve/head job: Total rebuild: Crank balancing: Any feedback to what these kind of services might cost would be greatly appreciated. Slow down

You casually state that you are about to do a compression test. I hope you understand what testing a diesel entails. You need a special adapter and gauge and new gaskets and seals to reinstall the injectors. Why do you want to do a compression test? What malfunction symptoms are you experiencing? How many hours are on the 12 year old engine? Where did you get the thought of balancing the crank? Yanmars are very reliable engines. They have been going into US sailboats since the early 70's. Most are still running without being rebuilt. I'll stay away from quoting prices because I don't want to shoot down any local mechanics, nor to I want to give them any pricing ideas.
