I recently bought a very old, beat up ericson 35' sloop for $1000.00 It has no mast or any other riggings. I will have to completely rebuild her from the inside out. Does any one know where I can purchase a mast, boom, sails, and all riggings? Lastly, it would be nice to add a furling genoa and a furling main if there is such for this boat? Any help would be appreciated.

ERICSON 34 Mattapoisett
Furling

WE have a new '06 Harkens roller furler that works beautifully. But check w/ mfr because age of boat may be a factor. Haven't heard of anyone having a roller furling main. Everyone uses two rows of furling ties and lazy jacks. For mast & boom, go to Ericson.net (com?). Also contact rigging companies in your area. Sails are easier - contact used sails vendors. I think mast & boom come first. Getting new rigging is to your advantage. Then head (including holding tank and hoseds), stove and ice boxes. Check ports for water leakage. May have to reseat them and refinish all interior wood. Then all thru hulls. May have to replace all. Then engine. Will it start? Better to put a mechanic on this. You may also consider scraping the bottom, applying new barrier coat and new bottom paint. Budget about $850 for the paint alone.

Last year I bought a run down E 35 from boy scouts and sailed across the pacific with it!! I did however re rig, repower (with M25) buy sails(thanks minnies) new ham radio(downwind marine were fantastic), and new prop, seacocks, etc. All I can say is it is probably cheaper to buy a almost finished boat with most of the gear than do it yourself from an old boat. My girlfriend and I spent about $27000Us(we did all the labour) and 4 months fixing up the boat all up and another 10k on the crossing(we took a year) Seacor sailed beautifully all the way to Australia and the E35 seakeeping abilities are fantastic. If anyone wants some info to help them with their ericson 35 and any mods I recommend please mail me. Paul Seacor 1971 E35-II hull number 185

Mods to Ericson

I have a 1979 Ericson 35-2. I am curious what mods you made to make the ocean crossing. After the crossing, did you think of any mods that you should have made that you didnt know about before you started? How did she handle in big weather? What did you do for electricity? Bob
