I may be considering another old boat, a nice local 1972 Ericson 27. Pretty interesting boat with a tiller and an outboard well in the stern. Condition is everything of course so I'll get more details as I look at it tomorrow. Really I'm not actually looking but this one sort of fell into my lap so I thought it was worth a consideration. Any feedback, reading up on Ericson and I like the keel design being solid vs swing.

Had one years ago. Great boat, well made but slow. Ours had a Universal 5411 11HP diesel which is underpowered. Can't imagine motoring it into any wind with an outboard.

Thanks for the feedback and links. I'm not sure I want a boat older then what I have and I knowI don't want a tin of projects. I know the owner and he relocated a few months ago but prior to that he spent almost every weekend on her and replaced and upgraded a bunch of stuff. My concerns are ourboard reliability and sail condition. If it needs sails then I could do that this winter.

This boat also seems like it is not as tender as my O'day, which could be a big improvement for my wife's comfort.

When we owned the E27, our son bought an O'day 27 on which I sailed with hm quite a bit and found no difference in that respect.

After decades pass, basic strengths like having the hull-to-deck joint fiberglassed together on the inside become more important. The Ericson is both strong and a good sailing boat. As advised, do check in on the owners' site , ericsonyachts.org.

Also, having a cut-out in the transom for the OB is way (!) superior to having a bracket mount.

Thanks all the boat is not for us, needs a lot of attention and pretty rough.
