Has anyone in the past 5 years bought an older UK build and or registered boat to the US.

I am tracking the EPA regulations, yet I’m trying to determine if the boats we’re looking at would be grandfathered in.

We are looking at a 2002 Oyster, with her original Perkins Saber, M255 engine.

We’re trying to find anyone who has gone through a similar exprience with a simlar aged boat to talk through the process; and any lessons learned.

Thank you for any insight.

I have not imported a boat. It looks like the EPA is placing the responsibility on the engine manufacturer regarding Marine Diesel compliance. You can seek confirmation from the engine manufacturer as to the engine meeting the EPA standards. You can read the requirements here at this link. It is under section VI.

The summary of regulations for Marine Diesel engines can be found on page 68304

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is adopting emission standards for several types of unregulated nonroad engines and vehicles. These standards apply only to newly manufactured products. "
