This is the first I have come across an Enkes winch. It happens to be mine...now. I just bought a boat and took this Enkes AR8 apart. This must have been one of the few times it was apart. One of the base pawls had been jambed. it has put so much stress on the other base pawl that it has damaged the base and the base will not retain the pawl. My question, is ENKES still in busines? Or would anyone happen to have one they would part with. My thought for you... check your winches. r.w.landau

Enkes ARE out of business!

I had a problem with one of mine and looked all over the country and didn't find anybody who had any Enkes parts. I didn't however, check the web site Bob mentioned as it's a new one on me. Good Luck Lysle

Bob and L-Seeling..

You Canadians have all the good stuff. Bob, I tried to get that site working and can't get into the catalog. I tried to e-mail them with no response. L-seeling, Does that mean you have a spare winch laying around? Would it happen to be an AR8? Got any ideas as to why I can't get into thier catalog? r.w.landau

Enkes winches ATT: R W Landau

Have e-mailed Holland Marine Products with a copy of your posting in which you note the lack of response to your e-mail with my suggestion that they smarten up. Have had no problem opening the on-line catalog index and the Enkes winch pages. As you probably noted,to open this catalog in PDF format does require Adobe Acrobat. Let me know if they do not respond to your e-mail and I will phone them directly. Sorry that you experienced this problem as I have found them to me quite good. You might also request their paper catalog as it contains much useful information.

Sorry r.w. I'm still using mine...

I hate to admit it but my problem was a little different than yours. You see I was taking mine off to clean it and I let the retaining cap fall over the side. Fortunately, a diver friend of mine finally found it after about a year. Looks like you have found what you need though. I will be book marking that site myself. Thanks for stirring it up. Now I have a source for my winches as well. Regards, Lysle

Enkes Winches is alive.

I have contacted Holland Marine ( a service company for sure!) and they tell me Enkes is alive and well and that they have many parts in stock including new winches. Bob, Again I thank you for this info. r.w.landau
