I just bought a 1995 29.5. The engine has 3 loose wires on the port side. Does anyone know what they are for? On the hard, have not tried to turn over the engine yet.

A quick look at the engine service manual should tell you. Yanmar supplied a wiring harness that supported a few things that our boats didn't come with, and subsequently weren't hooked up. For instance, I'd bet money that the dangling blue wire is for the boot seal sensor that is only present on boats with saildrives. It's just a spare wire on our boats. I don't have my wiring diagram handy, but the others are probably something similar.

Don't have book on that engine but Yanmar has, in the past, used wiring harnesses with "spare" wires.. Some for tachometer where on some panels that is not an item, some for a water sensor for a sail drive diaphragm..
For instance, on my 3 GMF, there are unused ones; the big blue wire is labeled "For 1GM only", the white with red stripe is the saildrive water sensor.. That may be the one with the sealing connector and it may have a black wire in it too.. Don't know about that one dangling white.. Might be good to get a diagram .. should be in the manual?

EDIT: Robert beat me to the reply.. is consistent..
