Engine Water Temp Gauge

I have a B381 and would like to add a temp sender and gauge. I have the Captain's westerbeke panel and would like to know if the wire harness includes the wire for the gauge and ease of installation. Also I need help with finding a source for the parts (part numbers) because I don't want to replace the entire panel with the Admiral panel. Thanks.

This summer I added water temp, oil pressure and volt gauges, same style as fuel gauge. Yanmar 3JH4E engine on my 373. It is pre wired for both the oil pressure sender and the water temp sender. The biggest challenge was identifying the correct gauges and senders and identifying the wires in the harness. The project went together well and the gauges work very well. If interested I can gather the details.

Thanks for the reply. The Yanmar gauges are probably different from the Westrbeke gauges but I would still be interested in knowing where you got the from.

The 373 uses a VDO fuel level gauge. I used the VDO Onyx series gauges. I ended up replacing the fuel level gauge so they would all look exactly the same.

I discovered that the Yanmar needs a 150 psi oil pressure, not an 80 psi. Keep that in mind if you order one. The sender must have the same pressure rating.

The water temp gauge can be ordered with sender and assorted fittings, one of which will probably fit your Westerbeke. I suspect it has a plug near the thermostat housing for that purpose.

Finding a plug in an oil channel may not be as easy. Hopefully a good manual will help.

My Yanmar repair manual included wiring diagrams. Some time spent tracing the wiring located the wires which were used for the install.

If you want more info, I can find specific part numbers and send pics, but your Westerbeke may require something different.
