Engine upgrade

I have a 1975 Catalina 30. I am replacing the Atomic 4 with a Universal M3-20B. The new engine set’s higher. I understand there is a replacement hatch cover over the engine that is fiberglass or plastic and is slightly domed shaped. Does anyone know where to purchase on of these?

There are several c30's on my dock. One has a Volvo that the owner made a raised seat bottom out of wood to make it fit. One has a factory installed M3-20 that fits without the seat being raised. You might want to re-check your alignment. BTW, the M3-20 is a sweet motor.

Why I pick the universal

I pick the Univerals based on a recomendation from a friend, the head mechanic from a local brewers boat yard. He also pointed out that several brands of this size motor use the Kabota block. The price was also a factor.

Phil, try Catalina Direct.com. They have a large inventory of replacement parts. If you don't see it on line don't despair, just give them a call they are very helpful. I had one on my C-30 over my Universal M-25. If you can borrow one from someone over the winter you could use it to make a mold and make your own. It's simple gelcoat and glass work and an easy off season project.Good luck either way.
