I have the boat in a certified Honda shop for the first time with gear shifter/control cable problems. The mechanic is recommending to raise the motor by two bolt holes on the transom studs to bring the cavitation plate closer to the plane of the boat bottom. He believes this will produce slightly better speed from the Honda 50.

My questions to him were will this affect vessel stability? Will it avoid the control cable damage by missing the transom steering bars?

Has any owner done this sort of thing to their own boat?

how much is two bolt holes worth, 2 inches... 3... 6 inches? how much does it equate to in inches?
you may gain about 1.5mph at WOT, and there wont be any stability issues, and depending on the amount your are thinking of raising it your steering cable may or may not still align with the motor properly....

2 holes AFAIK is about 2" that should not change any handling, but will get more engine out of the water and plane/ go faster, as your mechanic said.

no opinion on the cables. -would need some pics.. just seal the bolt holes so water doesn't rot the wood in the transom.

shift cable need replacing every 2-3 years normally.
