Hi to everyone, First, excuse my english, i have not been practicing for a while but this is surely a good opportunity i am in the process of buying my new macgregor 26m and i have to make a choice for the engine which will be a 50 hp : Honda, Mercury, Suzuki ? Where i will buy the boat, they offer it with the Honda engine which seem's to be a very reliable engine but with limited dealer availability. I have read also that it is not the most powerfull of it's category. It seem's that honda is cheeting a little bit by putting the 50hp tag on the old 45 hp engine. Any comments on this ? My point is that 50 hp is already far enough power for the boat. I prefer reliability over getting the most powerfull engine in this part of the galaxy. So any comments about the honda reliability is welcome. The other choice that i have is the mercury engine. Probably on the most powerfull of the category and the brand that have the greatest number of dealers in North America. My boat dealer have replace them for Honda because he was having to much problem with Mercury and none with Honda. Any comments ? Suzuki ? Seem's also a very good engine and with good power management. Good choice ? Any of your comments are welcome. If you can specify your engine brand and size, we could a use this post as an engine survey for the mac 26. Thank's to everyone and have a pleasant and safe boating season Patrick

Service, Service, Service

I guess you are not in USA, so I would say get what you can get parts and service. any motor will need parts and service, and this is a critical issue, more or less depending on where you are, and how far from help. I would also say to get a larger motor, like a 70 or 90 hp. If you look at the weights for the different manufacurers, you often see the weights are the same for a 50 and 70, or 90 hp. the M will be a safer and more fun boat with the larger motor. In My Humble Opinion.... best of luck

Cycleworld Honda

Patrick, This is strange but true. I was able to get my Honda marine parts from the local Cycleworld dealership. They are motorcycle dealer but seems to carry marine parts. Check out your local Cycleworld dealer. The attached link showing quite a lot of Honda marine dealers in Laval.
