Having problem with engine surge. After running about 5-8 minutes @ 3000-3200 rpm's the engine slows to anyware around 500 to 1000 rpm's . Than recovers runs okay for a while than the cycle repeats. Act's like air or something in fuel lines. Changing the filters didn't help. Put in fresh fuel also. Any ideals?

clogged fuel pickup tube

The problem is with the fuel pickup tube, there is a small screen on the end that is clogged. Remove the tube, and remove the screen, then replace the tube without the screen. Your racor will now catch all the funk, and is alot easier to clean.

Elbow?

Hi, You did not say the age of your boat, and I do not know if this will help, but two things, has the fuel in the tank been in there since the beginning of last season? If so you may have a build up of sludge that a dose of Bio-bore will be needed, and how about the exhaust elbow? have you cleaned or replaced that recently? These engines are great, but they do need clean fuel, and clean air in, and a clean path out. Best of luck, I've been where you are several times, not fun! John K.

Yes, you were wright clogged off tight. Tossed screen and the junk inside pick up tube. Have you ever tried doing this on a 45' clearence 6" Tube 16" = move tank than remove. Thanks Rod

Sounds a little like..........

Hi I once had a similar problem and it turned out to be the pick up tube. If you get some small holes in the tube (acid corrosion) the engine will run great until the holes are above the fuel level, then starve when load is on. This will cause surging if the fuel sloshes around. Good luck Mike
