Engine runs cold

The Yanmar 2GM in my 1982 H30 never gets over 100 degrees. This was pointed out in the survey when I bought it late last year and after putting in a temperature gage (& oil pressure gage) it confirmed that the engine doesn't heat up. Is this merely a thermostat problem or could it be something else? What else? What are the results of running too cold. I am under the assumption that 160 is the proper temp. Comments welcomed.

thermostat

Sam, you need to replace the thermostat asap. Running any engine, especially a diesel that cold prevents the engine from burning off the condensation and deposits the oil catches. The result is rapid bearing and ring wear. It is a cheap and easy fix and you will like how much better the engine performs.

replace thermostat

Thanks for the advice on replaccing thermostat. I ram in for about 1/2 hour in local motoring,at 2500-2800RPM and still no warming up. Any further ideas??
