I have checked everything that is possible for me to check with the tools that I have. My cambell sail prop is 14.5 x 8.5 The engine still won't rev past 1800, 2200 in neutral so I'm going to get my wallet out and have a Qualified diesel mechanic look at it. Thanks for all your help on my previous post.

........... if your diesel is a Yanmar, check out the mixing elbow. This is a common problem. The 2200 RPM in neutral tells me that it's not your prop that's to blame. Next on the list is the primary and secondary fuel filters (if it's not the mixing elbow). Best regards, s/v Island Hunter

Ralph is right

It's likely the mixing elbow. Plenty of advice on replacing in the Archives on this site. Be sure to dismantle at the four screws of the manifold since the elbow itself is inaccessible. May need a machine shop to heat and disassemble the two pieces, then look to see how coked up the elbow is. $150 to replace, don't try to clean it. You can do all this yourself and save hundreds instead of paying a diesel mechanic. We've all done it, no big deal.

throttle cable okay, tack contacts okay, fuel filters done, air cleaner okay, run with engine covers off, to see if it is breathing, seems okay.nothing changed. The only thing left is the mixing elbow and I'm sure it has never been off since 1995. What's really annoying is, it runs good.

John...

before you tackle the mixing elbow, clean the connection of the tach pickup to the wiring harness and make sure it's a tight metal-to-metal connection.
